Created in 1990, Women’s Health Center consists of three physicians, one nurse practitioner, one nurse mid-wife and an aesthetician. Our physicians are all American-trained and Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. They are among the country’s leaders, offering the latest advances in both traditional and nontraditional therapies.
Dorothy Gutwein, M.D.
Sensing a tremendous need for more women physicians in the Shelton/Valley area, Dr. Gutwein co-founded Women’s Health Center in 1990. She embraces the Planetree Philosophy of healthcare which encourages treatment and healing in a warm and caring atmosphere.
"I treat my patients as I would my own family members.” Dr. Gutwein resides in Shelton.

Michael O’Reilly M.D.
Dr. O’Reilly has been in private practice at the Women’s Health Center Since 1991,. He is the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Griffin Hospital. An active lecturer and writer, his specialty is in integrating alternative and traditional medicines as it applies to women’s health care. He is also the founder of the world’s most utilized web site on menopause. Dr. O'Reilly lives in Monroe with his wife and two children.

Katherine Reese, M.D.
Dr. Reese joined Women’s Health Center after working the Yale-based HMO and having completed a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic and pelvic support surgery. "For me, the practice of obstetrics and gynecology is an exciting combination of well-woman focus, challenging surgical techniques and the rewards of participating in a woman's birth experience." She resides in Weston with her husband and two stepchildren.

Shawn K. Polizzi, APRN
"My profession as a women's health nurse practitioner is a true extension of myself."
Shawn is committed to health education and empowering women to be participants in their own health care and wellness. She is especially interested in the challenges faced by adolescent women. Shawn lives in East Haven with her husband, daughter and twin sons.
